Case of the Week: Cosmetic Dentistry, Porcelain Crowns, Dental Implants
Case of the Week:
Meet our patient, Alice (name changed for confidentiality). After many years of being unable to smile due to the condition of her teeth, she was finally ready to make a change. After a treatment planning consultation, Dr. Scardella came up with a plan to bring back Alice’s smile. Also included in the treatment plan was the restoration of her back teeth, in order to repair the chewing function she desired and create a bite to protect the front teeth.
From this “before” photo you can see the condition of Alice’s teeth has deteriorated considerably. The front teeth are discolored and chipped. There are old fillings which have broken down. There is tooth decay present, as well as one tooth which has broken off at the gumline.
Here’s the plan: place full porcelain crowns (ceramic crowns) on five of Alice’s front teeth. The broken tooth will be removed and a bone graft will be placed. Beautiful, custom fabricated temporary crowns will be placed at the end of the first visit, including the replacement of the extracted tooth. After healing of the bone graft, a dental implant with a full porcelain crown will be placed to replace the missing tooth.
The “after” photograph shows Alice with her temporary crowns in place. Finally, she can smile again. Since these are the temporary crowns, just think how beautiful the porcelain crowns will be. This is the type of cosmetic dentistry and implant dentistry done daily at Center for Progressive Dentistry by Dr. Scardella and Dr. Santelli. See more “before and after” photographs here.
