Sedation Dentistry in Duxbury, MA
Sedation Dentistry
Dental anxiety is one of the most common phobias today, despite great advances in the comfort of dental care. At Center for Progressive Dentistry, we offer a variety of sedation services depending on your anxiety level.
Oral Sedation
Oral sedation with anti-anxiety drugs like Valium and Xanax is commonly used prior to dental procedures. Typically taken one hour prior to the appointment, these medications can greatly reduce your anxiety about your visit. It is important to remember that you must have an escort drive you to and from your appointment when taking these drugs.
Nitrous Oxide
Nitrous oxide, commonly known as “laughing gas,” is another great way to reduce anxiety levels. A small mask is placed over your nose, and the nitrous oxide gas, combined with oxygen, flows easily in and out as you breathe normally. After the relaxing procedure, you will be placed on 100% oxygen for 5 minutes until all the nitrous oxide gas has left your body. You will be able to drive yourself home after the appointment.
IV Sedation
Some patients prefer to be completely “asleep” during longer dental procedures. Center for Progressive Dentistry offers IV sedation by an anesthesiologist who visits our practice. Dr. Patrick McCarty is a Board Certified Dentist Anesthesiologist who will be able to put you to sleep so that our dentists can perform the necessary treatment. Drs. Scardella and McCarty have worked together on many patients over the past few years, providing much needed dentistry to those people who would otherwise be too nervous to have anything done.
To ensure your safety, Center for Progressive Dentistry and Dr. McCarty have passed rigorous inspection by the Board of Dentistry and have obtained all the proper licenses to perform sedation up to and including general anesthesia. Dr. McCarty travels with to our Duxbury, MA office with all of his state-of-the-art equipment and a paramedic for every appointment.
A wide variety of dental procedures can be performed under IV sedation or general anesthesia.
