Dental Implants in Duxbury, MA

Older Couple Hugging | Dentist Duxbury MAIf you have a missing tooth or teeth, or need to have a tooth extracted, dental implants may be used as a replacement. Center for Progressive Dentistry offers implant treatment from start to finish, including removal of teeth, placement of dental implants, and restoring the implants with crowns, bridges, or dentures.

Since implants were first introduced, they have helped millions of patients replace their missing or damaged teeth. The technology and sophistication of treatment has reached a level where the vast majority of cases are successful. Dr. David Scardella has received training to properly handle most cases right in our office.

What Is a Dental Implant?

Think of an implant like a titanium artificial tooth root. Once the artificial root has healed with the jawbone, an attachment can be placed to secure a crown or denture.

Single Tooth Replacement

If you have a missing tooth or need to have a tooth extracted, a single dental implant may be the solution. Implants offer a “one tooth solution” for a “one tooth problem.” Unlike bridges, dental implants do not involve the surrounding teeth. When the crown is placed on the implant, it is separate from the neighboring teeth, allowing for optimum cleaning and esthetics. Implants can be used to replace front teeth or back teeth.

Multiple Teeth Replacement

Implants can also be used to replace multiple teeth. A bridge can be made to join multiple implants.

Replacing All Your Teeth with Dental Implants

If you are in a situation where all your teeth need to be replaced, or you already have dentures, dental implants can help. Implants can be placed with attachments to secure a loose-fitting denture. This is especially helpful for loose lower dentures.

Dental implants can also be used to replace all your teeth with a fixed bridge. No more taking your denture out at night because these bridges are not meant to be removed.

What Is the Process Like?

Dental implant surgery is relatively minor, but before we decide if it’s right for you, we’ll conduct an evaluation to make sure you are healthy enough to receive implants. After you are approved as a candidate for the procedure, the implants will be placed, followed by a healing period that usually takes a few months.

Once the implants have integrated with the jawbone, a mold of your teeth will be taken and sent to our laboratory where the final crown will be fabricated. During the last appointment, the crown will be securely attached to your implant.

FREE Dental Implant Consultation

Center for Progressive Dentistry will clearly identify all the options to replace your missing teeth. If you have any questions about whether you might benefit from dental implants, please contact our Duxbury dental office to set up a consultation with Dr. David Scardella. Your free consultation will include a panoramic x-ray.

Frequently Asked Questions

A bridge replaces a missing tooth or missing teeth by using adjacent teeth as anchors. It connects the teeth together while still looking like separate teeth. However, you cannot floss between the teeth. A dental implant does not involve the adjacent teeth. It is a one tooth solution for a one tooth problem. The implant is a titanium artificial root to which a crown is attached through a connector called an abutment. The implant complex looks and feels like a natural tooth and you can floss around it normally.

Insurance coverage is variable on dental implants depending on the plan. They are being included in insurance plans more often now. Our team will be able to look into the insurance coverage prior to any treatment being done so that an accurate estimate of cost can be made.

In almost all situations an implant is preferred over a bridge to replace a missing tooth. There are some technical reasons why a bridge might be preferred, but they are limited.

In our office, a dental implant may actually be less costly than a bridge. Any restoration that you don’t have to remove (like a dental implant or a bridge) is going to cost more than a removable prosthetic like a denture or partial. This is because of the material cost, lab cost, and expertise needed to complete the procedures.

No, the dental implant should be indistinguishable from your natural teeth.

Dental Implants Technology

CBCT (3D X-Rays)

You won't find this technology at most general dentistry and even specialist offices. While most dental X-rays are two-dimensional, Cone Beam Computed Tomography (or CBCT) allows for visualization of the oral cavity in three dimensions. This can be extremely important in locating important anatomical structures in the jaws prior to dental surgery, such as nerves or sinuses.

CBCT can be used to locate root fractures and diagnose failed root canals, which may be causing an infection without your knowledge. Read Dr. Scardella's blog about this amazing new technology here.
